portraits
I have over a decade of portrait experience, primarily with children and teens, but I also enjoy working with families, couples, athletes, and professionals. My style is a mix of posed smiles and candid moments. I work with both natural and studio light, depending on how the client wants the final product to look.
I have a great location in Oakland with access to murals, a waterfront, and a scenic bridge, but I am also open to working on location throughout the Bay Area.
Sessions with me are lighthearted, collaborative, and efficient. Even if you’re uncomfortable having your photo taken, I promise to help you look your best and feel confident about your images.
what to expect
Some of us are natural models; some of us are not. Whether you seek out cameras or shy away from them, your photo session should be a fun experience (yes, really). We look our best when we are most relaxed, so feel free to play your favourite music, bring a prop, and experiment with different looks.
Most sessions (except the headshot mini) allow for a change of clothes, and I recommend taking advantage of having two different looks. Some fabrics may not work well on a windy day, and some prints might look strange in photographs. Feel free to bring different jackets, scarves, and accessories that can be switched out quickly.
I might ask you to try something that feels awkward or embarrassing. Have an open mind, and give it a shot. If you hate the photo, no one will ever see it. Sometimes, I ask clients to do silly things just to get them laughing. Sometimes, I fall over things on purpose, just to get a good laugh. (It works best on young clients!)
Speaking of my youngest models, I try to let the kids be kids and have fun. Many kids find it hard to relax in front of a camera, since they are so used to saying “cheese” and having the instant gratification of seeing their photos. It is important to have some time to warm up and let the kid(s) get to know me.
